Welcome
to the Eastlake room - one of the most popular rooms
with guests who enjoy sitting by the window and watching
waves crash against the rocks, otters swimming in
the secluded coves and sailboats gliding along the
Monterey Bay.
This first floor room is furnished with exquisite
1880’s Eastlake pieces - making it difficult to imagine
that this room once housed the Parke family laundry
facilities. The bed entails an 1880 Eastlake American
Walnut headboard and footboard on a raised platform
with canopy and pierced carving that compliment the
king-size bed. The views while resting against the
pillows are breathtaking!
You may notice the exquisite nightstands. These are
1850 triangular pierced-legged American Walnut tobacco
stands with copper-lined humidors. The bedside lamps
are 1910 Bronze acanthus leaved with lace-fringed
shades.
An 1880 Eastlake American Walnut gray marble-top dresser
with mirror and candle stands. Included in this room
is an 1880 Eastlake American Walnut upholstered two-seat
settee with matching chairs, 1900 needlepoint upholstered
bench with cabriole legs, and an 1880 Walnut Eastlake
armoire - one door, beveled mirror, one drawer and
two carved shell panels on front.
The Eastlake room will further delight those who have
a taste for fine authentic antiques: a 1900 onyx oriental
style table lamp, 1870 double drop leaf American Walnut
table with drawer, inlaid fabric and pierced-fence,
1900 fancy brass and onyx bridge floor lamp with lace
and fringed shade...and an 1880 Empire-style (Meridian)
silver fruit bowl with handle. An 1880 marble top
basin and a 1900 walnut top nightstand are in the
bathroom.
As you enter the spacious bathroom, you will surely
notice the extra long claw foot tub - it measures
seven-foot and was custom built for Mr. Parke who
was quite tall. This tub once resided on the second
floor, but had to be moved downstairs due to its weight
in order to meet current earthquake codes.
Spending your stay at the Martine Inn in the Eastlake
room will an unforgettable experience to cherish for
many years to come!
